Star Wars: The Acolyte, Kogonada And Alex García Are The New Directors Of The Show

While at the moment the media attention is focused entirely on the arrival of the third season of The Mandalorian on Disney+, we must not forget that Lucasfilm is working on many other projects at the same time, such as the shows on Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew, but also the project The Acolyte, set in the High Republic of Star Wars.

First hinted by insider Daniel Richtman and then confirmed by a report from Discussing Film, it seems that Kogonada, director of After Yang, will direct at least one episode of the series; Discussing Film also adds that The Witcher director Alex García López has joined the directing team. Up to this point, it was only known that Leslye Headland would direct the pilot episode, but it is speculated that he could also return to direct another one.

It is currently unknown how many episodes Kogonada or García López will direct, just as the total number of episodes of the series is unknown.

In addition to directing the critically acclaimed After Yang starring Colin Farrell and Jodie Turner-Smith (who also stars in The Acolyte ), Kogonada also directed four episodes of the Apple TV+ series Pachinko, which last year received very positive reviews. García López is a prolific television director who has worked on Cowboy Bebop, The Witcher, Daredevil, The Punisher, and Luke Cage, among others, all projects for Netflix.

As for the showrunners, for now, we only know that Leslye Headland is the lead and that the writers’ room she assembled includes House of the Dragon author Charmaine DeGraté. The officially announced cast includes Amandla Stenberg who plays the lead, Lee Jung-Jae who plays the male co-star, Dafne Keen, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Carrie- Anne Moss. Margarita Levieva will reportedly guest-star on the series. Filming on The Acolyte is underway and the series is expected to hit Disney+ in 2024.

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy full of dark secrets where it will tell of the emergence of the dark side in the last days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan is reunited with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they face are more sinister than they ever anticipated.
