The director of the original trilogy has not seen The Fountain of Youth and La Vengeance de Salazar.

As Disney prepares to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean saga without Johnny Depp, the original director, Gore Verbinski, tells Collider the mind-boggling behind the scenes of The Curse of the Black Pearl   (2003), The Secret of the Cursed Chest (2006), and At World’s End (2007). It mainly covers the shots of the second and third opus, filmed at the same time when the end of the story was barely written!

If he admits to having finished this exhausting experience, the director is proud of the result and considers that he had the director’s cut on these three films. On the other hand, for him, the adventure of the Pirates ended there, and he did not want to get involved in the sequels, La Fontaine de Jouvence, directed by Rob Marshall in 2011, and La Vengeance de Salazar. , by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, released in 2017. ” Honestly, I did not try to see the consequences, he explains at the end of the interview. I didn’t feel the urge. I guess if I ran into one of them on TV I would watch it, but for now, I’m focusing on the work in front of me. Finally, I am sure that I will see them one day … ”.

During the interview, he also mentions having thought of his trilogy as a complete work, which was to end at the end of Until the end of the world: make more sense in this new world. It was a fundamental point of the plot. It is a sad time for Barbossa and Jack, who stop, witness this, and realize that they have become dinosaurs. (…) Then we wanted to explore everything, to really complete this story. I was making the third film telling myself that there shouldn’t be anymore. “
