Indiana Jones 5, Spielberg Reveals His True Involvement in the Last Film of the Saga

Although he was initially attached to direct the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones saga, which he co-created and had previously directed, fans were stunned when Steven Spielberg announced his exit from the Harrison Ford-starring franchise.

Just three months after Spielberg’s departure, Lucasfilm announced that his replacement would be James Mangold, the acclaimed author of Copland, the remake of 3:1 to YumaLogan and Ford v Ferrari, with Spielberg moving to an executive producer role: now, during a new promotional interview that arrived after the announcement of the 2023 Oscar nominations, Spielberg clarified the level of his involvement in Indiana Jones 5, which as easily predictable was very limited. Speaking to Deadline, Spielberg noted that he was ” peripherally involved ” in the film and that he also “personally supported the choice of James Mangold as director. ” The author of The Fabelmans added: ” I knew from the beginning that I would let him make most of the decisions.

Officially titled Indiana Jones and The Wheel of Destiny, the film is so shrouded in mystery that it still does not have any official synopsis shared by Disney: the cast, in addition to Harrison Ford, also includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen. The Italian release date is still unknown but in the USA the film is expected for next June 30, so it may debut a couple of days in advance.
