Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Mike Mignola Wrote the Film: It Will Be the First of a Saga!

During the week Discussing Film had exclusively reported the news of the arrival of a new reboot of the Hellboy film saga. Now, the EFM of the Berlin Film Festival Millennium Media has revealed further exciting details about the surprise project.

The film, which has been ‘in the making’ for some time, will be directed by Brian Taylor ( Crank ) and will hit theaters officially titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man, with shooting starting next month in Bulgaria and casting that will be communicated ‘in days’. Another surprise, which will surely delight comic fans, is that for the first time in the film saga, the screenplay for the new Hellboy film was written by Mike Mignola, creator of the acclaimed Hellboy comics. in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics colleague Chris Golden.

The story of the film – which will be released in the wake of the unsuccessful Hellboy reboot with David Harbour – ” will expand the world of Hellboy by adapting one of the most beloved issues of the comic book series “, namely “Hellboy: The Crooked Man”, a saga that on paper in print debuted in July 2008 to coincide with the theatrical release of Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. The new film will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in rural 1950s Appalachia, where a small witch-infested community is led by a demon linked to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man. In the comic, The Crooked Man was an eighteenth-century miser and war profiteer named Jeremiah Watkins who was hanged for his crimes but returned from hell.

“ The Crooked Man will be different from all the previous Hellboy films, with Mike Mignola finally signing a version of his stories and characters in film form,” Jeffrey Greenstein, president of Millennium Media, told the EFM of Berlin talking to potential distributors of the project. “ This will be the first Hellboy in a new film series – Brian Taylor is well versed in this area and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life and bring our new Hellboy film series to our audiences .”
